BC is home to mighty, small cities that are waiting to roll the red carpet out for your meeting, event, or conference. No we aren’t talking fancy galas with paparazzi, we’re talking affordable, outside the box venue spaces, and apres spots that will blow your socks off. Tourism Kamloops, Tourism Nanaimo and Meet in Penticton are ready to host you, and it’s a sweet deal for you, the planner, if you book in all three destinations.

Outside the Box BC is a destination collective made up of the Meet in Penticton, Meet in Nanaimo and Meet in Kamloops teams. We come to you in the spirit of collaboration, and to show off our stunning province.

We're also kind of obsessed with making sure planners and their delegates see the smaller nooks and crannies, the unique destinations, the 'Outside the Box' locations and venues BC has to offer.

How It Works

Submit one Request for Proposal, to connect with all three destinations. Separate RFP responses will slide into your Inbox from each destination. While we want you to book in all three destinations, we understand it may not be possible to do so in consecutive years, so you have 5 years to book in three destinations and still reap the rewards.

The proposal responses from each destination will include:

Non-traditional venues that will make your event standout from the rest
Accommodations that are convenient and don’t break the bank
Vendor Lists that will make your planning seamless - photography, catering, A/V etc.
Entertainment to keep your delegates anything but bored
Cuisine to keep the hanger levels down
Planning support from a representative at each destination

But wait… there’s more! By booking your event with all three destinations (pen to paper or keystroke to computer), you will receive $10 back per room night at each destination.

Destinations

Think beyond 5* accommodations, elegant fine dining, and standard conference centres, because you won’t find that here. Think Outside the Box - affordable, local watering holes, off-site venues that can host up to 600 delegates, oh and we’re all easy to get to. When you secure these three BC destinations as your meeting, event, or conference locations, you and your delegates will experience down to earth locations oceanside, riverside and lakeside.

Kamloops

Kamloops is more than a highway town. It’s a small town feel with large city amenities, golden grasslands, and fragrant sagebrush sitting at the confluence of two rivers in central BC. It’s team building on a wine tour (1 to 3 wineries, we won’t judge), hitting the ol dusty trail - literally - on two wheels, and a vibrant arts and culture scene to bust out the creative side of your delegates. What if we also told you, you could host your event amongst wildlife or in a heritage railyard? There’s no messing around in Kamloops, as it is sure to create FOMO.

Nanaimo

Nanaimo is all about oceanfront hosting. Fly or drive onto the ferry (yes the ferry stops here too) and explore this quaint Island town that boasts lakes, picturesque mountainscapes, and ocean views for days. Now where to host… how about a retreat centre on a mountain lake or perhaps an Art Gallery in the downtown shopping district? Endless possibilities await and are close to pre or post event hot spots that will keep your delegates far from boredom - we’re talking ziplines through forests, whale watching, and goat yoga. We’re ready for you to hop aboard (see what we did there).

Penticton

200 wineries, 8 craft breweries, 3 distilleries, 5km of sandy beaches, 150 trails to explore, and situated between two lakes… dare we say more? Penticton, nestled in BC’s Southern Okanagan Valley, offers city amenities and experiences urban cities are jealous of. When you’re planning your event, select hotel rooms that are in close proximity to unique venues (did you know there is more than 100,000 sq ft of meeting space?) and apres adventure so your delegates can have the time of their life while visiting. Don’t wait, come see the fun for yourself.

Booking Conditions

Please note that eligibility for the funding is contingent upon the request/application being submitted to the participating destinations. Prior to signing any agreements with your event venue. Once a contract with your venue has been signed, funding will no longer be available. Outside the Box BC reserves the right to review and approve all funding applications in accordance with its policies and available resources.
